There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about.
— Oscar Wilde
This book is the result of the quest Jim Collins undertook to answer the question,Can a good company become a great company and if so, how? The answer is yes but there is no easy, or simple roadmap to follow. After having searched through a list of 1435 companies Collins identified 11 that had achieved significant improvements in their performance over time. These 11 shared common traits but many of these challenged conventional notions of corporate success. What Collins concludes is that the act of making the transition from good to great does not necessarily require a high-profile CEO innovative change management techniques, adoption of the latest technology, or even a finely-tuned business strategy. Instead, what is at the core of the rare and truly great companies is a corporate culture that rigorously found and promoted disciplined people to think and act in a disciplined way.
