Burnout is a major issue that erodes personal brand effectiveness and vitality. Not taking the proper amount of time off during the year can be as dangerous as not properly hydrating and taking precautions during a heat wave, like the one we all recently experienced. As we approach the end of the third quarter, many of you have been going full-out for most of the year without the necessary time off to refresh yourselves. Will you have the stamina you need to take you through the typically intense final quarter—not just to survive it, but to hit it full on, in high gear?

This month’s main article is a call to action: Give yourself permission to plan the time off you need (and desire). You not only deserve it…you need it in order to be at your best!

Permission to Renew: A Lesson from the Dog Days of Summer

In the past couple of newsletters, I have written about our transition coaching, where the challenge is often getting as much accomplished as possible in the first few months. But transitions aside, we find a more common problem of people chronically working too much—sacrificing the balance of their lives for what are often modest and ephemeral career gains.
