Position Summary
A Director of Client Service (DCS) is the most senior position in account services. The primary job function is to drive the account service groups under their charge. This pivotal position encompasses three key areas business building, strategic thinking/brand building, and troubleshooting. Works with agency President and head Creatives to form core agency management team. Represents the agency and networks values to staff, existing clients, potential clients, and industry peers.
Responsibilities
Business Building
- Continually identifies opportunities for incremental income (i.e., selling more)
- Generates "big ideas" and fosters big idea development among account groups
- Actively seeks new brand assignments from current clients
- Generates opportunities with partner/sister companies
- Spearheads new business pitches
Strategic Thinking
- Is aware of major market trends and has a good grasp how they may affect the industry, his/her client and their brands
- Is aware of emerging new drugs impacting his/her clients business
- Demonstrates a thorough understanding of the brands, their strategic/relevant histories, and performance
- Champions development of a strategic communications plan with alignment between issues, strategies, and programming
- Possesses strategic skills that go beyond category experience
Branding/Creative
- Encourages and contributes to the development of world-class creative
- Drives the branding process and fosters understanding of it (internally and externally)
- Contributes to the creation and building of brands, domestically and globally
- Utilizes and helps continually strengthen the different branding tools used in the agency; runs branding workshops as appropriate
Client Services
- Ensures high agency visibility and awareness among clients
- Identifies ways to strengthen relationships
- Resolves client conflict effectively; intervenes as needed during difficult client situations
- Keeps senior level client management informed, championing for product management/marketing on key
- issues/opportunities (as appropriate)
- Demonstrates understanding of clients' vision or mission
Leadership/Management
- Demonstrates leadership internally and externally by providing vision for teams
- Establishes, maintains and continually refines standards of excellence
- Resolves staff conflicts effectively
- Identifies and helps address development needs of account team members
- Nurtures individual talent, yet fosters team building
- Advocates for staff growth and provides clear and regular performance feedback
Agency Operations
- Assists in resource allocations to maximize profitability
- Demonstrates strong financial acumen with respect to staffing, fees, and forecasts
- Negotiates annual agency fees and outlines financial/staffing issues and solutions for senior management
- Identifies ways to improve operating efficiencies and effectiveness
- Participates in the development of the annual business plan
- Contributes to the overall management of the agency and our mission
Performance Standards
- Possesses an intimate knowledge of the category markets to which his/her brands belong
- Delivers upon or exceeds financial goals
- Ensures seamless management of Account Services department
- Drives and delivers upon the Winning Spirit
- Delivers organic growth opportunities
- Manages Account Services staff according to client needs
- Partners with President, Creative Directors, and Operations Manager to ensure agency success
- Establishes leadership among all levels and departments within the agency
- Establishes and maintains strong relationships with all key client personnel across all levels
- Manages the development of the Account Services department through training and development
- Ensures that Clients are exceedingly happy
- Leverages opportunities with other ERL global affiliates/partner companies
- Demonstrates the ability to hire and retain highly capable people while fostering diversity and career development
- Follows up to ensure goals are met through encouragement and constructive feedback and provides direction when needed
Requirements
- BA/BS
- 15+ years of experience in account services at healthcare/pharmaceutical agency
- Well-rounded category experience
- Launch experience
- Proven track record
- Established client relationships
